Project Summary

Capture EV Charging data and disseminate findings, in a comprehensive form, to residents.

Challenge Details

The City aims to aggregate usage of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations, as well as from “dumb” legacy EV chargers, to make better data-driven decisions regarding sustainability targets.

The Department of Public Works is responsible for permitting the deployment of curbside EV chargers and other chargers located on City property or within City rights-of-way.

The City has limited data on the usage of EV chargers installed within the City and, therefore, does not know the amount or frequency of daily charger usage.

The City is currently unable to accurately quantify the usage of EV chargers. In addition, the City has legacy, i.e., “dumb,” EV chargers installed throughout the City and these legacy chargers do not capture or provide data regarding usage.

The City seeks to determine and communicate citywide benefits of EV adoption, raise community awareness, support the deployment of new technologies, and establish comprehensive metrics to evaluate the impacts of these technologies across different vendors.
